My career in education has spanned over three decades. I have taught all content areas to primary/middle school students, science and health to secondary students and education theory and biology to college students. Of all my experiences in education, I have most enjoyed teaching the Life Sciences. With a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction, I am also a perpetual student of traditional education and all areas of self-improvement. To help other educators, students, and parents, I have authored several books for teaching and learning. My science themed books are: 40 Biology Lab Activities, Life Science "Do-Nows" and "Exit Tickets": 180 Days of Warm-up and Closure Activities and Get Stoked for Science Jokes. The classroom assets, labs, and assignments found in those volumes were used successfully in my high school biology classroom. Another book, Dirty Monkeys Smell Bad, is a story I wrote about one monkey who teaches another how to do long division. My latest book, Nathan's Investigation, is about a high school boy who gets some unexpected help with his biology experiment. It will be available in late 2019. I further support teachers and the "Edu-Interested" with two blogs: Biology Teaching Blog and GKC-Edupinion. The intent of my Biology Teaching Blog is to provide general instructional plans, reasoning, and thoughts for the NY State Living Environment Course. I have uploaded each unit's presentation (PowerPoint) file, which acts as a "plan book", and the videos which are shown to students at various points within each presentation. The presentation/PowerPoint files direct the topics of instruction during the three-four weeks of each unit. The blog consists of ten posts which correspond to the ten units of the course. The intent of GKC-Edupinion Blog is to offer my Cat's Eye View of education and related topics that have influenced and informed me in my professional life. It is a work in progress and may offer anecdotes, editorials, predictions....and more. It will be an evolution. Stay tuned for future posts! I also offer a way for teachers to save time with lesson planning using my pre-made, highly organized Teaching Resources. Full of engaging activities for the classroom, these assignments, labs and printables are organized by topic, with a diverse set of techniques, including fill-ins, color coding, multiple choice, hands-on, and constructed response. There are over 200 science classroom resources available which are organized by topic, so you can plan for the entire school year!
