About The Story: A child wakes up to noise in the garden which turns out to be an Ibis bird foraging for food, but why isn’t the Ibis living in its natural habitat?  The child starts on an adventure to find out why and learns about recycling along the way, and ends up helping the bin chicken.

This storybook is written in collaboration with RecycleSmart a Sydney based recycling company that are trying to spread the word about what can be recycled and where.  When people think of recycling it is usually in relation to plastic bottles, cans, glass and paper.  However, there are many more items than those that can be recycled you just need to find out where that is.  In Australia, each state has different rules around recycling and what goes in each household bin, but there are options for recycling items like batteries, ink cartridges, electrical items and more that don’t cost you anything but make a BIG impact on the environment.  In this world of mass consumerism and throwaway society, it is important to buy to last, and if you do need to bin it to do it right.

The last page of the Bin Chicken storybook gives you the details of where you can go to find out where to recycle items in Australia, and the story will inspire you to look at things differently and not just assume by putting it in the bin that it is the right thing to do.

My girls really enjoyed the book hey are 4 & 10 years old. They always think it’s funny when people refer to Ibis birds as bin chickens so it was the perfect book to educate them a little bit more…the illustrations were beautiful! Congratulations on a great book!

My God kids (5mths ok he wants to eat it, 3yrs and 4yr olds) love the Bin chicken book and ask can we read it when they come over or ask did I bring it when I go to see them.
Their mum and I are working hard to change our ways to adopt a sustainable lifestyle. So the book fits in really well with what they are being taught.
We go walking around a lake each week and if they see an ibis they call it Archie the bin chicken and say we need to clean this place up. Its actually a beautiful clean lake but that’s how kids think lol.

Thanks so much for the book. It is getting a lot of love.

This book was a massive hit with my girls! Especially the 2.5-year old – she was so excited and interested, she continued repeating the story and asking me to read it again and again! Thank you so much! You are doing a wonderful thing!

This book was just perfect because, as the stakes get higher to find an entertaining book for my young nephews, this one really raised the bar. They laughed so hard that we were all in the story together. Great story, great concept and super easy to use platform.
