How many people know at age ten what they want to do as an adult? And how many actually achieve their goal? When she was ten, Claudia Cangilla McAdam realized that she wanted nothing more than to be a professional writer. She studied hard in school, and with an undergraduate degree in English, she was being published before she graduated from college. Today, she is an award-winning author of two dozen books for kids and teens. Claudia also writes articles, stories, and poetry for magazines and newspapers for children as well as for adults. Additionally, she pens reading comprehension passages for standardized tests for elementary school students, with more than 300 such passages completed to date. Did you dislike taking those tests as a kid? Claudia remembers being a child reading boring reading comp passages and asking herself, "Who writes these things?" She's happy that now SHE writes those things because she tries to make them as engaging as any book she might write for children. Although much of her writing is for the secular market, Claudia also creates faith-based works, supported by her master’s degree in theology. She and her husband live in Colorado, close to their children and grandchildren. And even though many years have passed since ten-year-old Claudia fell in love with writing, the fire of that passion has not dimmed, and she enjoys sharing her work and process with children and adults throughout the country.
